The  Bowls Northland Sports Awards were presented at an official function  on Saturday, which was attended by 154 bowlers from throughout the centre.
Prestigious awards were handed out to Kensington's Patricia Murray, who was named the player of the year.
The young player of the year award went to another Kensington bowler,
Hayley Phillips, while the team of the year was Kensington/Whangarei's division two sevens contingent.
Kensington continued their successful run with Dave Dalton collecting the coach of the year accolade, while greenkeeper honours went to One Tree Pt's Neil Wyness.
Kamo's Dave Reid was named administrator of the year, while Hikurangi's Gwen Lawson picked up the service to bowls award. The overall club of the year was One Tree Point Bowling Club.
Volunteer of the year certificates were also awarded to 10 clubs, thanking their members for their voluntary service, while the Bowls New Zealand coach of the year for 2008-09 award was presented to Ann Muir of Kensington.
 
The centre prizegiving was also completed on the night and winners were:
Champion of champion singles: Sue Wightman of Hakaru and Wayne Wrack from Waipu. Champion of champion pairs: Pam Arbon/Patricia Murray (Kensington/Whangarei), Alan Rakich/Jim Vallance (Dargaville). Champion of champion triples: Anne Bateman/Ann Muir/Joan Erceg (Kensington), Jim Vallance/Mick Marinkovich/Tom Ker (Dargaville). Champion of champion fours: Tottie Rakich/Ann Radonich/Joyce Osborne/Margaret Smitton (Dargaville), John Dunn/Gordon Bond/Hugh Fidler/Doug
Domigan (Onerahi). First year singles: Hayley Phillips (Kensington), Rob Anderson (Mangawhai). Mixed pairs: Anne Bateman/Mike Butler (Kensington). Championship open singles: Diane Lawrence (Arapohue), Gordon Bond (Onerahi). Championship open pairs: Anne Bateman/Nancy Jujnovich (Kensington), Mike Butler/Joe Thorburn (Kensington). Championship open triples: Sophie Anderson/Betty Pouwhare/Madeline Yovich (Hikurangi), Gary Herbert/Paul Graham/Goldie Wardell (Whangarei).
Championship open fours: Diane Lawrence/Marny Jones/Lyn Nash/Leanne Stewart (Arapohue), Ken Fitness/Mike Butler/Mark DeLacy/Joe Thorburn (Kensington). Junior open singles: Noel Watson (Kamo), Linda Brockbank (Kensington). Junior open pairs: May Paki-Slater/Linda Wyness (One Tree Pt), Ron Heaton/Rob Anderson (Mangawhai).
 
 

Women's squadThe Northland women's team selectors have announced the following squad to train over the winter period for their open and open reserve teams for 2010-11:
Sue Wightman, Patricia Murray, Ann Muir, Madeline Yovich, Manu Timoti, Janice McLean, Maureen Parker, Anne Bateman, Diane Larence, Ann Halls, Marny Jones, Maree Attwood, Leanne Stewart, Joan Erceg, Sharron MacKinnon, Amy Burgess, Jude Ganley, Linda Brockbank, Lauren Mills, Caroline Downs, Pat Warth and Margaret Gurney.
Any player not available please contact Gwen Lawson immediately.
 

Annual meetingThe final act of the 2009-10 season will be the centre annual general meeting on June 20 at Bowls Whangarei. Clubs, don't forget to make sure that your representative is present.
 
This is my last report for this season. May you all enjoy your time away from bowls, thank you all for the information you have provided me with over the summer and I look forward to hearing from you again in September when the new season begins.
As winter bowls are now in progress, I hope to see some of you on the green.
