IF THE Northland junior girls are anything to go by, Northland will be aiming for national domination in women's golf in just a few short years.
If you consider that Northland already has Caroline Bon in the national senior team then, with Golf Northland Junior Girls Team of Shanice Bowmar, Rachael
Williams, Ana Flood, Chelsea Rivers, Katie-Louise Bowmar and Renee Adams once again in top form, the future looks very good for the representative province.
The junior girls team won the annual Junior Girls Development Quadrangular, held at the Warkworth Golf Club on April 28-29.
The team went through unbeaten, defeating Waikato 4/2 in their first match, followed by wins over North Harbour 3/2 and Auckland 3/2.
Due to an impending storm, play on the second day was reduced to 9-hole matches.
This did not phase the girls with some matches finishing as early as the sixth hole.
Standout players were Chelsea Rivers and Rachael Williams who finished the tournament unbeaten. Also a very commendable effort by Shanice Bowmar, playing at No1 for the first time and finishing with a loss, a win and a half.
The girls now go on to play in the bi-annual Northland versus Auckland match to be held at the Grange later this month.
Final placings._
Northland 1, North Harbour 2, Auckland 3, Waikato 4.
Vs Waikato: Renee Adams lost to Emma Hambleton 3/2; K-Louise Bowmar beat Cathleen McKay 5/4; Chelsea Rivers beat Chelsea Sharp 5/4; Ana Flood beat Hayley Broughton 3/1; Rachael Williams beat Charlotte Wilson 4/3; Shanice Bowmar lost to Kelly Nicholas 6/5.
Vs North Harbour: Renee Adams halved with Julia Unsworth; K-Louise Bowmar lost to Letitia Wood 1 down; Chelsea Rivers beat Kristine Tamainu 4/3; Ana flood lost to Nicola Cresswell 3/1; Rachael Williams beat Chelsea Tucker 4/3; Shanice Bowmar beat Dayna McCormick 3/2.
