The past week has seen some batting milestones reached in Northland junior cricket.
The highlight of the Doug Thorpe cricket tournament was Ben Smith's century batting for Whangarei and also the partnership of 154 between Smith and Jacob Cherrington in the match against the Whangarei Development side.
Smith was also involved with the bowling success of the team in the tournament, taking two wickets as Whangarei routed Rodney for just 35 in the competition final.
Smith was awarded for making the most outstanding performance at the tournament and he was unsurprisingly also named in the tournament team.
Daniel Ridgley was another named in the tournament team but made his standout performance on Saturday against City with an unbeaten century of 104 in the A Grade match.
The century, which included nine fours, is the first century since A Grade was reduced to 30 overs for the first innings more than 10 years ago.
