A young and talented junior Northland men's golf team will head to Cambridge on Monday to have a crack at claiming the North Island Interprovincial Tournament.

The eight-man contingent is spearheaded by 15-year-old Kadin Neho, on the back of winning the James Busby Plate at the Golf Northland Matchplay Tournament last weekend.

Jack Winwood, the team manager along with Rob Pelsky, said Neho has loads of potential and hoped he would bring his A-game to the annual tournament.

"We have some very talented players in the mix this year. Kadin has continued his form from last year and is having a great season ... I think our team has a very good chance this year of at least making the top three if we play to our potential," Winwood said.

Last year, the junior boys finished in the top four, and are aiming high in their matchplay against Auckland, Bay of Plenty, North Harbour, along with Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, Waikato and Eastland.

They play two rounds each on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, finishing on Friday.

Neho, along with teammate Luke Brown, who won the individual honours at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Teams Tournament recently, was selected for the Srixon New Zealand Golf Junior Academy, based on both players' outstanding performances this year.

They will head to a training/development camp in Auckland next weekend. Meanwhile, the Northland senior men's team will be selected after this weekend's City of Whangarei Men's 54 Hole Classic at Sherwood Park.

The senior team will include some of the juniors competing at the interprovincials, and they will contest the Mens' Northern Region Quadrangular Tournament on October 15-16, against Taranaki, Auckland and Waikato.

Northland Junior Men to compete at the North Island Interprovincials, October 11-14:

Under-19s: Sean Masters (Kaitaia), Luke Brown (Pines), Chase McKeown (Waipu), Thomas Neylon (Waipu/captain), Kevin Kruse (Rawene)

Under-16s: Kadin Neho (Whangarei), Ethan O'Shea (Northland), Braden Keown (Waipu).
