Five of Northland's up-and-coming cricketers were named in the Mapei Northern Districts Junior Secondary Schools Team to play at the North Island Tournament, in Taupo early next year.
David Armitt, Sam Clotworthy, Sean Daniels and Fraser Seymour - along with Kashmir Harypursat, who was named as a non-travelling reserve - were
included in the representative side following gritty performances for Northland at last week's five-day Mapei Northern Districts Junior Secondary Schoolboys' Tournament in Manurewa.
The boys were consistent throughout the tournament, which saw Northland progress to the two-day final after winning their pool and going through undefeated.
Clotworthy top-scored with 38 runs for Northland in round one, when his team thrashed Bay of Plenty Lakelands by 109 runs.
He backed his batting effort up again in round two when Northland met Poverty Bay. Once again he top-scored, hitting 51 runs helping his side reach 141/7. Poverty Bay only managed 45 runs before Northland had them all out, and won by 95 runs. Shaun Daniels was dangerous with the ball and hauled in a massive eight wickets for just nine runs.
Gathering momentum in each match, Clotworthy struck 85 on the third day in Northland's game against Waikato Valley Plains. Harypursat supported him with 75 runs as Northland went on to make 216-8. They defeated the Waikato team by an impressive 131 runs after they were all out for 85.
Waikato Valley South won the other pool and were geared up to play Northland, but wet weather forced the Counties Manukau organisers to change the final to a one day game instead. The rain continued, however, and the game was a wash out. Both teams will share the trophy.
Meanwhile, Whangarei Boys' High School's Harypursat was also selected for the Mapei ND Junior Secondary Schools Development team who play the Auckland Development Selection on January 24-25 at Karaka Cricket Ground.
Kieran Nelson was the sole Northland player named in the ND Under-17s to go up against Auckland Under-17 Selection. These teams will go head to head on January 13-14.
Meanwhile, Henry Cooper, Thomas Herman, Ben Hyde, Aiden Miller and Alex Seymour will bring a depth of talent to the ND Under-18 side who play a pre-tournament game against Auckland this week at South Auckland before contesting the National Tournament.
