Heavy rain meant rough and ready conditions for primary school athletes at the North Primary School Cross Country Championships at Barge Park.
There were a larger number of runners slipping, sliding and sustaining falls than in previous contests in recent memory and although there were no serious injuries, the first aid
staff were kept busy all day.
Depite the weather, the event was successful and enjoyable for competitors and organisers wish to thank all those volunteers who organised and co-ordinated the event, the students who participated and all the supporters who braved the elements.

Year 6 Girls: 1 Sally Pitkethley (Tauraroa Area School), 2 Katrina Howe (Kamo Primary School), 3 Katie Nilson (Maungatapere Primary School).
Year 6 Boys: 1 Shane Maxwell (Ngunguru Primary School), 2 Alan Brook (Onerahi Primary School) 3 Joshua Crawford (St Francis Xavier School).
Year 7 Girls: 1 Bridget Johnson (Whangarei Intermediate School), 2 Nakeysha Lamners (Kamo Intermediate), 3 Ashley Maioha (Kamo Intermediate).
