Young Northland cricketer Chamodh Peiris has been dubbed a player to watch after receiving a Future Knights Player of the Month Award.
The 15- year- old Peiris received the nomination after a strong showing for Northland's junior secondary schools team against Counties Manukau and North Harbour, and a top showingat the Junior Secondary School Tournament.
Peiris was nominated after scoring 75 against Counties, 34 against North Harbour, and for notching up 213 runs without being dismissed at the secondary school tournament in November - including two half centuries and a century across two days.
Peiris has already played men's premier cricket in Northland. He plays for both the Whangarei Boys' High School team and the Northland Junior Secondary Schools side.
The Future Knights award has been put together by the Northern Districts Cricket Association in conjunction with GB Sports to celebrate the achievements of young players around the Northern Districts region.
The intake which Peiris was nominated with was the inaugural bunch, with all male and female cricketers aged between 10-18 years in the Northern Districts region are eligible for the award.
Northern Districts junior high performance coordinator Peter Zanzottera said he was rapt with the quality of the first intake of nominees.
