Parlane was dismissed by Clare with four overs to go, but Craig Little (13 not out) paired with Cooper, who ended the innings unbeaten on 53 off just 34 balls, and saw Northland through to 173/3 off their 20 overs.
Poverty Bay started positively but the required run rate was always going to be an issue.
Simar Virk (2 for 25) removed both the openers as the score went past 50 but the Northland bowlers turned the screws to limit their opponents to 121/7.
Cam Johnson was equally as damaging as Virk, taking two wickets himself.
The next hit out was a much tougher affair for the Northlanders as they came up against a spirited Bay of Plenty side.
Northland again batted first but found the going a bit tougher this time. Lortan was dismissed early but Cooper (62 off 55) settled the innings as Hyde (16), Little (18) and Kurtley Watson (14 not out) rallied around him to get Northland through to 135/5.
Northland again let their opponents get off to a flyer but fortunately none of Poverty Bay's batsman made it out of the twenties.
Brett Randell (2 for 21) made the crucial breakthrough in removing Northern Districts batsman Bharat Popli for 25 while Cooper showed his allround skills with two wickets of his own.
Heading into the last over Poverty Bay needed 19 runs. A dot and a wicket to start the over left 19 needed from four balls and their 16 wasn't quite enough on the day.
