Bowls: Northland chasing national honours

The national tournament being held in Dunedin is now in full swing. Only a small contingent of Northlanders are taking part.

Anne Muir (Kensington) has qualified in the singles.

In the pairs Anne Bateman (Hikurangi) playing with Rachel McDowall of Andersons Bay; Diane Strawbridge (Kensington) playing with Julie Kerry of Tauranga; Anne Muir playing with Carolyn Crawford of St Clair Dunedin have all qualified.

In the men's section, Adam Booth (Mangawhai) qualified in the singles and, with Ken Fitness (Hikurangi), qualified in the pairs.

There are 84 women's pairs, 194 men's pairs, 134 women's singles entries and 280 men's singles entries in this event. Post section of singles and pairs have been played this week and the fours event starts next week.

The tournament, which incorporates the 100th Anniversary of Bowls in New Zealand, finishes on January 9.

The Masonic Annual Any Combination Fours Tournament scheduled for February 4 has been transferred to the Kamo Bowling Club greens. Those teams that have entered the competition please note the change of venue.

Junior Bowlers are also reminded the Arapohue Junior Hagger 1-10 Year Academy Any Combination Triples has been set down for Saturday, January 25. Entries to the Arapohue Club please. Arapohue are also holding the Breckon Memorial Men's Triples tournament on Sunday, February 9, and not Monday as advertised in the centre tournament handbook.

Please check the Arapohue page of your handbook and enter your team.

Friday morning pennants, a new centre event this year is set to start on January 31.

Clubs are reminded to enter their teams, entry forms have been sent to all clubs.

The event will be played in sections for men, women or mixed triples. One game per day, 18 ends no time limit.

If you are keen to play in this event please contact your club and get an entry.
