Gwen Lawson rounds up bowling news.

The Bowls New Zealand AGM was held in Auckland last weekend and it is congratulations to Ann Muir who was inducted as the president of Bowls New Zealand for a term of two years.

A contingent of Northland bowlers were present to see the ceremony and to attend the induction into the Bowls Hall of Fame, of 27 players and nine administrators from 1913 to the present day.

Pennants action

This weekend sees the first of the centre competitions start with the Centre Inter Club pennants being played at six venues. Fifty-four teams of four players will take part in five divisions. The draw is as follows:

Section 1: Day one at Onerahi, day two at Maungaturoto: Mangawhai Stingrays; Hikurangi Red; Mangawhai Whiptails; Whangarei No 1; Onerahi No 1; Kensington Black, Kensington Red, Maungatapere 1; Onerahi 4; Maungaturoto.

Section 2: Day one at Maungakaramea, day two at Kamo: Ngunguru; One Tree Point, Mangawhai Mantarays, Hikurangi Black, Whangarei 3; Kensington Blue, Kamo A; Kensington Yellow; Dargaville; Maungatapere; Waipu 1; Onerahi 2.

Section 3: Day one at Ngunguru, day two at Hikurangi: Mangawhai Eagle Rays, Hikurangi Green; Ngunguru 2; Kamo B; Onerahi B; Maungatapere 3; One Tree Pt 2; Waipu 2; Whangarei 4; Whangarei 2; Kensington Green; Mangawhai Electric Rays.

Women:

Section 1: Day one at Kamo, day two at Onerahi: Waipu; Hikurangi Red; Maungatapere 1; Kamo; The All Bon Bons; Onerahi 2; The Park Stirs; The Moorrs; Mangawhai Green; Mangawhai Blue.

Section 2: Day one at Hikurangi, day two at Ngunguru: One Tree Pt; Hikurangi Black; Ngunguru; The Brewers; The Stirling Silvers; Whangarei; Onerahi 1; Maungatapere 2; Mangawhai Yellow; Mangawhai Red.

Play starts at 9am each day.

Schools start

Secondary School Bowls will be held at the Onerahi greens on the weekend of September 28-29. Forty-eight boys and girls from Auckland, North Harbour, Far North and Northland will take part. Anyone interested in being a marker for either day, please contact Gwen on 09-435-0372. Lunch provided and play starts Saturday at 12pm.
