Requests from two developers to have development contribution postponed have been approved by the Kaipara District Council.

The postponements apply to a three-lot subdivision on Marahemo Rd, Maungaturoto, belonging to one-off developers Stephen and Heidi Pope ($18,208) and a nine-lot subdivision on Moir Point Rd, Mangawhai belonging to North City Developers ($123,000).

A statutory land charge on the titles of the unsold lots will allow this to happen. Development contribution will be payable pro rata on the sale of each lot, or on issues of a building consent, or at the end of five years from the issue of titles, whichever is sooner.

The council felt while the postponement would delay the council receipt of the contributions it would enable the developments to be brought to the market more quickly and therefore bring a greater surety of the council recovering contributions.

It was also felt the postponement would encourage economic and social development as well as allow environmental infrastructure improvements.
