A 16-year-old male was arrested in central Whangarei after he smashed the front window of a central city clothing business.

Senior Sergeant Stephanie Hudson said that about 12.50am yesterday, the teenager got into an argument with another person outside Hallensteins on Rathbone St.

He then picked up a rock and allegedly threw it at the front window before punching the glass with his right hand.

He was arrested and will be referred to Youth Aid.

The shop was opened for business yesterday while the damaged glass was being repaired.
The company did not respond to a request for comment.

In June last year, a vehicle was used to ramraid the shop and about $5000 worth of clothing was stolen.
