A multi-sport event with some of the best views imaginable will see about 400 people race up Baldrock Mountain, near Kaiwaka, for the annual Top of the Rock race this weekend.

is a multisport event with some of the best views imaginable and this weekend around 400 competitors will climb Kaiwaka's iconic Baldrock Mountain in the annual challenge.

The Kaiwaka Sports Association's seventh annual Top of the Rock event will be held again on Sunday, with a range of challenges for walkers, runners and mountain bikers, whether they are recreational or competitive.

There is a 5km or 11km walk or run; a 10km run and 15km mountain bike ride; a 10km or 30km mountain bike route and a fun bike course for under 10-year-olds that's free.

The routes travel through some of Kaiwaka's most scenic countryside, including bush, lakes and farmland.

Participants get the opportunity to climb the iconic Baldrock Mountain, which is easier than the daunting view from the road suggests, because there is a well-formed track which spirals around the mountain.

Last year there were more than 400 participants and organisers are hoping to build on that number this year.

Organiser Cheryl Anderson said people don't need to be too concerned about their fitness level as there is no time limit on completing the events.

"And we even have marshals in utes following the tailenders who will give you a ride back if you get tired. Participants of all ages enter Top of the Rock, from preschoolers upwards - last year the $50 prize for the oldest participant went to a 79-year-old," Ms Anderson said.

It kicks off from Kaiwaka Sports Association, Gibbons Rd, Kaiwaka, from 8am.

The event caters for walkers, runners and mountain bikers, both recreational and competitive as there are a range of options:

•5km or 11km walk or run
•10km run + 15km mountain bike ride combo (can be done as an individual or in a pair)
•10km or 30km mountain bike route
• plus, a fun bike course for under 10-year-olds

Routes travel through some of Kaiwaka's most scenic countryside – bush, lakes and farmland.
