Music lovers can enjoy a spectacular outdoor matinee concert relaxing in the Kennaways' beautiful garden settings as Opera in the Garden returns this weekend.

The 23rd annual event, being held tomorrowfrom 3pm to 5pm, will feature another afternoon of memorable songs by the Opera North soloists and chorus.

This year's guests are husband and wife Joel and Maia Amosa, and at their invitation, globally recognised Whangārei baritone Kawiti Waetford will also return home to join them and the Opera North chorus on stage.

Joel won the prestigious 2018 Lexus Song Quest while Maia, who is from Rawene, was a finalist in the 2018 Dame Malvina Major Foundation NZ Aria competition.

Maia and Joel married in November 2017, and performed together in June last year at the Because of Joan concert in honour of Opera North founder Joan Kennaway, who passed away last year.

This year the event is themed Our Amazing World of Music.

As usual, the first half of the show will feature well-known operatic and classical pieces, while the second half will consist of lighter material, much of it drawn from musical theatre and including a medley from Disney favourite, The Lion King.

Punters are encouraged to pack the chilly bin, a blanket or a deck chair and head out to enjoy an afternoon concert filled with quality singing.
