Tiki Taane, Ria Hall and Laughton Kora all play together in Northland this weekend. Tiki Taane, Ria Hall and Laughton Kora are combining for the Tipi Haere Tour. These shows will see all three artists perform three sets from their own bodies of work, and undoubtedly some special collaborations only to be witnessed in person. This run of shows will be the first Northland performances in some time for each of these artists. They play tonight, at the Turner Centre, in Kerikeri, tomorrow at Te Ahu, in Kaitāia and on Sunday at the Opononi Hotel. All three gigs start at 7pm.

Rust and Mermaid Bait play

Rust and Mermaid Bait play at Onerahi Tavern, tonight from 7pm-11pm. Two of Whangārei's leading independent bands are teaming up to bring a night of the newest, hottest, coolest, rock pop and funky fun.

Celtic sounds

Norðan, who play Celtic harp and Nordic fiddle, are at Kamo Swifts Soccer Club, tonight from 7.30pm. It will be an evening of North Atlantic Soundscapes with a slideshow on big screen. It features Angelika Nielsen violin, vocals and Thomas Loefke Celtic harp, photography.

Ben Ratima is Live & Unplugged at OneOneSix, 116a Bank St, Whangārei, tomorrow from 6pm-10pm.

Puanga Rising - A Dawn Matariki Celebration is at Kiwi North Museum, Kiwi House and Heritage Park, in Maunu, Whangārei, on Saturday from 6am-9am. Planetarium North and Kiwi North invite you to join them for "Puanga Rising" to watch Puanga and Matariki's travels across the sky. Planetarium Tours every 10 minutes from 6am to 7am. Welcome the Māori New Year with a fire on the Museum knoll. View Puanga - Star of the New Year, star of abundance in the Mim Ringer Gallery at the museum. Koha/donation appreciated.

Flax weaving workshop

A two day Raranga Flax Weaving Workshop for Matariki is being held at The Kauri Museum, Church Rd, Matakohe, tomorrow and Sunday from 10am-3pm both days.
Local weaver Geraldine Jenkins will take the workshop. People will start at the beginning and learn the protocols of gathering the flax, moving to preparation of the fibre and then onto weaving a kete to take home. Bookings are essential so email - admin@kaurimuseum.com or phone 09 431 7147.
