A Hikurangi woman has organised a car and bike show this weekend to raise money so local children who are ineligible for free meningococcal W vaccinations can be immunised.

The Save Our Tamariki Show & Shine will be held at the Hikurangi Rugby Grounds on Sunday from 11am to 3pm.

Event organiser Ange Marsh, co-founder of Wagon Mafia Car Club, said the idea came to her when Hikurangi woman Shona Marsh told her about her goal to raise $20,000 so kids at Hikurangi School aged between 5 to 12 - the age group currently not eligible for free meningococcal W immunisations - can be vaccinated.

"When Shona first told me about her thought of fundraising to immunise the children at Hikurangi Primary School against men W I was completely on board. I told her I wanted to organise a car and bike show to help raise the funds, which she was more than happy with," she said.

But earlier this month Whitehead had already reached her $20,000 goal so Marsh decided to go ahead with the fundraiser and use the money raised to get immunisations for local children who do not go to the school but are also ineligible for free vaccinations.

"So far I have around 15 car and bike clubs from Whangārei and the Far North attending my event as most car and/or bike clubs do support events where it is to fundraise for our tamariki. So I am blessed to have their support on the day," she said.

Marsh said there would be a market and food stalls at the event, a DJ - DJ Illegera, raffles, two competition drift cars which she said will be an awesome attraction for children and those in the car scene, and more.
