A criminal defence lawyer who attended Harvard Law School, an orca expert, and a 13-year-old girl passionate about the moana.
These are just a few of the speakers at TEDxTutukaka tomorrow.
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of powerful talks. Meanwhile, independently run TEDxevents help share ideas in communities around the world.
Mary Britton, event licensee, said she enjoyed the process of bringing TEDx to Te Tai Tokerau for the first time.
"Our delegate experience team has worked with imagination and aroha to create a memorable day for every attendee."
The line-up of speakers includes Kingi Snelgar, a youth advocate and lawyer who studied at Harvard Law School; world-known orca expert Ingrid Visser; 13-year-old Waikamania Seve; The Mind Lab founder Francis Valentine; conservationist Don McKenzie; community-builder Glenis Philip-Barbara; housing advocate Jade Kake; business leader Rod Parkinson; intelligence expert Shireen Chua; Aperahama Edwards, a local Maori leader; and living-roof designers Zoe Avery and Renee Davies.
The theme for the event is Tapuwae - footprints in our sand.
Kiri Edwards, from Matapouri, attended the first TEDxTutukaka team meeting - where the event kaupapa, goals and theme were developed - and now leads the attendees experience team.
"I was very fortunate to be part of the TEDxTutukaka team invited to attend the amazing TEDxAuckland late last year. It was my first live TEDx event and it gave me great insight into the attendee experience.
"We're excited about creating a unique event here in Tutukaka, that reflects our own community and not only showcases our beautiful coastline, but also creates a platform to hear some amazing and thought-provoking ideas."
In addition to 11 talks at the day-long event there will also be food and several surprise items which typically make up a TEDx experience.
The live event at Oceans Quality Hotel is limited to 100 people but organisers plan to host a post-event showing of all the TEDxTutukaka talks.
