Rochelle Record has once again proved she's one fit mum.

The Whangarei mother took out the Masters Women category at the third annual Fittest Mum competition in an impressive effort in Auckland.

Record said the competition was a demanding effort.

"It was the hardest competition I have done in a while, the other competitors were strong," she said.

"Due to work commitments I have not really been able to train as much as I would like so my preparation wasn't that good.

But I had heaps of fun and I love having to push hard to come from behind."

Record beat nine other Masters women, including Far North CrossFit's Kim Grison who came seventh, over four "WODs".

A WOD, or Workout of the Day, is a set of exercises to complete inside a set time.

These workouts vary, with exercises including weightlifting, pull-ups, burpees, box jumps and a raft of others.

Record came out on top in three of the WODs - 3A, 4A and 4B. In 3A, she had to do five sets of nine pull-ups, seven burpees over a bar and five front squats.

In 4A she did 12 box jump-overs, kettlebell swings and shoulder to overheads before as many toes to bar reps as possible before time expired.

The final WOD, 4B, included 20 double unders, 15 wallballs, 10 goblet squats, five deadlifts and three hang power cleans.

The Fittest Mum competition has been running in Auckland since 2016 and has regularly attracted between 65-75 athletes looking to prove their mettle.

Record said the competition was a celebration of mothers everywhere.

"I love that it is all about the mums," she said.

"Being a mum is the hardest job around. All mums are masters of multi-tasking and this comp really celebrates mums creating the time to get to the gym and do something for themselves.

"Any mum that manages to squish some training into their day is a legend in my book, it's a fantastic supportive comp that is extremely well run, it's a hard competition but so satisfying.

"It's so cute to see the kids there cheering on their mums. Some even made signs. They are truly in awe of their mums."

CrossFit is a major part of Record's life. She now owns two CrossFit gyms - Barbell Jungle in Whangarei and Warkworth CrossFit.

Record said her work commitments limited her preparation for events like the Fittest Mum but her love of the sport got her across the line.

"I do not get the time for any special prep these days," she said.

"Life is hectic to say the least. I also have a fulltime position as the office manager at Rosvall Sawmill where I have been for 13 years.

"I do all the programming, admin, marketing and accounts for both gyms as well as coach 10 classes a week. So there is no prep except a massage the day before.

"I still manage to train a minimum of two hours per day, five days a week. I have to train alone a lot which is not as much fun but I really love what I do.

"I love to help others reach their goals and I am very aware a lot of people look up to me, so even on those days when I am exhausted, I suck it up and get my training in and I always feel more energised and alive afterwards."
