Police are continuing to probe the unexplained death of a man in the Whangārei suburb of Te Kamo.

Emergency services were called to Carr St about 10.35am on Monday after a man was found dead inside a property.

The home, near the corner of Carr St and Sierra Ave, remained cordoned off today as police continued their investigation.

A forensic trailer, blue tent, three marked police vehicles and a police truck were at the scene about 10.40am.

Personnel could be seen dressed in protective suits as the investigation unfolded.

A resident, who did not want to be named, told the Advocate police had been door-knocking properties seeking CCTV footage.

The street was relatively quiet aside from motorbikes riding up and down, she said.

Northland area investigations manager Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer yesterday said inquiries were still in their early stages.

A scene guard was in place overnight.

Pilmer said an autopsy would take place in due course, which would further inform police inquiries.
