Whangarei house cordoned off as police talk to man inside

Whangarei police have cordoned off a house in Tikipunga, Whangarei, and are believed to be negotiating with a man holed up inside.

Police were called to a house near the intersection of Balmoral and Vinegar Hill Rds. The house is understood to be on Balmoral Rd.

Police said it was a "developing situation" but there was no danger to the public.

"The situation is cordoned and contained and we'll release more info as soon as we're able to," police said.

It's understood a man is holed up in the house and police are negotiating with him.

A Northern Advocate reporter at the scene said about eight police vehicles, including the police negotiation team and a dog handler, are at the house, along with two fire engines and an ambulance.
