City's Quinn Pooley helped his side to 192-4, but it wasn't enough to beat Whangarei Boys High School 1st XI in the Greg Guy Shield.

A rain-affected Dargaville Shield reaches its climax today as Whangarei South look to topple defending champions Rodney.

Both sides took advantage of the good conditions as they took victories in their matches that essentially became semifinals.

Rodney set Mid Western 178 to win after half centuries from openers Jaz Williams (76 not out) and Jordan Kose (54).

Northland bowlers Randell (5 for 26) and Dill (5 for 20) snared all 10 wickets, leaving Mid Western 30 runs short and ending their quest for a fifth Dargaville Shield triumph in six years.

Whangarei South had a fairly comfortable 49-run win over City in the other match last Saturday.

Dylan Clark led the way with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 78, while Lucky Singh led a good team effort with the ball by taking 4 for 41.

The final starts at 11am at Kensington Park.

Mid Western and City will face off at Maungakaramea Domain at the same time.

In reserve grade Greg Guy Shield action, Kamo will take on Whangarei Boys' High School First XI to decide who wins the shield.

Last Saturday at Tikipunga, Kamo Reserves took on the Northland Junior Secondary School (JSS) side, winning by 80 runs.

WBHS 1st X1 defeated City Reserves by 4 wickets, after passing City's total in the last over of the match.

Vaughan Witten (80) and Quinn Pooley (70) piled on the runs for City and a score of 192 for 4 looked like a winning total.

However, WBHS kept up with the run rate through the game with Matt Kingi (44) and Kurt Oldridge (41 not out) bringing them home.

They face off at Kensington Park in the final, while City Reserves face Mid Western reserves at the same venue. Both games start at 12pm.
