Whangārei crash: More than 850 without power

More than 850 homes are without power after a car crashed into a power pole north of Whangārei this afternoon.

An update on Northpower’s website stated 861 customers in Te Kamo and Kauri had no power.

“We will not have an estimated time of restoration until the work required has been assessed,” the update said.

Power was interrupted just after 4pm. Estimates suggested it would be out for at least two hours.

Police have been approached for comment.
