Rod Douglas Construction owner Ivan Tomason has branched out to open a self-storage company to meet what he sees as a growing sector in the district.

Whangarei Storage HQ – located in Rewarewa Rd – opened for business in early December.
Mr Tomason said he initiated market research which confirmed a
growing need for more storage facilities in Whangarei as Northland was in a growth phase.

He said the point of difference with other storage companies already set up in Whangarei was the location not far from State Highway 1 with easy access.

The site is fully concreted with 154 units available for rent.

Mr Tomason bought Rod Douglas Construction in 1981. It has become one of the largest construction firms in Northland specialising in farm and industrial building projects.

The first owners, Rod and Vivienne Douglas, started the company in 1965 with the first hay barn being built in the backyard of their home in Onerahi.
