Whangarei's Mt Tiger Archers made their presence felt at the World Masters Games, picking up six gold medals and one silver.

Archers from around the world competed in four days of shooting, with many new international friendships established during the competition.

Rob Ward (veteran male longbow) won gold in both the IFAA marked 28 field round and the World Archery 24 target field round.

John Cook (veteran male recurve freestyle limited) won silver in the IFAA marked 28 field round and came 4th in the world archery 24 target field round.

Lois Howe (veteran female freestyle unlimited) came third on score for the World Archery 24 target field round but was knocked back to fourth on a count back for 6's (an x).

Howe also came fourth in the IFAA marked 28 field round.

Lisa Ferris (adult female bowhunter unlimited) won gold in all four events - IFAA marked 28 field round, world archery marked 24 target field round, world archery 18m and 25m indoors, and world archery 50 m outdoor target.

Ferris said it was a truly brilliant event.

"What an amazing event! Thank you to Massey Archery Club for the warm welcomes and fantastic international courses, and to Archery NZ for organising the indoor and target events," she said.

"I met some amazing national and international archers and shot daily with fantastic groups. Hours of practice both mental and physical have paid off.

"National and international archery coach Trevor Irvine supported me throughout my preparation and gave me the skills required to gain great results."

Meanwhile, senior swimmers also had a successful week, bringing home eight medals.

Friedrich Bohne was the star, picking up three golds and one silver in the 85-89 age group.

Bohne grabbed silver in the 800m freestyle, but the best was yet to come.

He proceeded to get three golds in the 400m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke.

Elsewhere, Peter Wilkinson was grabbing gold medals for himself.

He topped the 75-79 competition in the 100 butterfly and the 2.5km open water races.

In the women's 65-69 division, Elizabeth Calvert nabbed gold in the 5km open water swim, finishing in 1:45.03.

Northland's medal-winning exploits spilt over to the weightlifting gym, with Vanessa Lawgun and Jade Younger adding to the tally.

Lawgun grabbed bronze in the female 45-49 58kg competition, lifting totals of 45kg in the snatch and 61kg in the clean and jerk.

Younger went two better to grab gold in the female 35-39 58kg event, with lifts of 62kg in the snatch and 80kg in the clean and jerk.
