WATCH: Princesses and pirates come out to play at Whangārei's Papermill

It was all about the pirates and princesses at The Papermill's school holiday open day in Whangārei.

Around 15 children, with parents and grandparents in tow headed along to The Papermill on Whangārei's Kamo Rd on Tuesday.

Creative director Annelies Leeuwenburg said the organisation's paper makers showed those who turned up how they make paper and helped them make costume accessories - tiaras, magic wands, pirate swords and pirate hats.

Photographer Michael Cunningham got amongst the creativity.

Mum Ayla-Jane Ogle, daughter Emma Montefiore, 5, and nan Lynn Ogle enjoyed some quality family time.

Jonette Ruatara was full of smiles.

Sisters Lilah Cartwright, 6, and Yvette Cartwright, 7, looked the part as princesses.

Jessica Webster, 7, punches out a shape from cardboard which she would later decorate.

Paper maker Mark Tierney concentrated on the task at hand.
