Police have found a wanted man hiding in a wardrobe.

Police have found a wanted man hiding in a wardrobe.

A man wanted by police in relation to a number of burglaries was found hiding in a wardrobe in a Whangarei house.

Northland police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said the 23-year-old had been avoiding police after a series of burglaries in which a boat and quad bikes were stolen.

He was discovered by police on Tuesday in the wardrobe of a Raumanga house. A man appeared in the Whangarei District Court yesterday on four charges of burglary, one charge of theft of a motor vehicle and one of theft.

The quad bikes were stolen from two Maungatapere properties in November and December. One property was hit twice. The boat and a 15hp Yamaha outboard motor were stolen from Port Rd in early December.

Detective Sergeant Aaron Crawford said police had recovered one quad and the boat.
