There will be a working bee at the Waimamaku Community Garden, above, on Saturday.

The Waimamaku Community Garden Group is hosting a working bee on Saturday to start developing a community garden next to the Four Square in the township.

Organisers hope the community garden will be a great asset to the community and a resource for all to learn about growing healthy kai.

All surplus produce from the garden will be provided to those in need within the Hokianga community and the group aims to build positive relationships with existing and potential community groups around concepts of food production and sustainability.

As part of this community garden organisers also hope to set up a free food cupboard, seed exchange and tool library.

They want as many people as possible to turn up from 10am on Saturday for the working bee and say it would be great if people can bring tools for construction, seedlings for planting or any tools they would like to donate to the tool library and seeds for the seed exchange.
