Hill, who is Northland recruiting officer and workplace training officer, has an impressive background in the sport having donned the silver fern before but admitted it had been a few years since she has played.
"This is a great opportunity to get back into the game with a skilled team of players."
She played softball from the age of 12 when her mother coached the Eden Roskill side and made all the Auckland age-group teams. Hill anchored her spot as a pitcher in the New Zealand under-18 side and then again for the under-21 team.
Hill was in teams with New Zealand pitching legend Gina Weber and acted as a back-up pitcher.
"It's been a few years since I played but I'm really looking for to getting back out there with most of the women who are playing in the Auckland competition this summer."
It will be the third time Lyle has been a member of the squad having competed in 2013 and 2016.
While she had no competitive softball experience, it was her ability to smash a hockey ball that seemed to be a transferable skill.
Her hockey background included playing premier club level in Auckland as well as representing Auckland for a number of years.
In the last tournament she completed a "grand slam" - hitting a home run with loaded bases.
It's something the Old Girls hockey player hopes to replicate this time round.
"The team has a new coach who is passionate and keen to make a real mark on the tournament. It's a fiercely competitive tournament with plenty of premier players in the teams," Lyle said.
"I'm honing my hand-eye co-ordination and practising on Shelly's aggressive pitching."
