Only 48 hours ago Moses Atigi asked his partner Chanel Whareumu to be his wife.

Today during a ceremony at St Isaac's Church in Whakapara the pair were presented as Mr and Mrs Atigi for the first time.

Mr Atigi spent eight months planning the couple's entire wedding without the knowledge of Mrs Atigi.

"Today is a special day to me, not just because it's our wedding but it's my Aunty's birthday and the day my nan passed away and she died at 12.17pm and that's why the time for the ceremony was at that time. I was meaning to propose a week before but knowing Chanel she likes everything perfect so I didn't want a bridezilla for a whole week, so I thought I'd have her for at lease one day," he said.

The ceremony was attended by about 100 family and friends who shed tears and laughed during the ceremony and burst into applause as the couple shared their first kiss as a married couple.

They said it was a "good feeling" being husband and wife.

"It's been a long time, we've been together nine years and it's taken this long. I should've popped the question earlier but it was always bad timing and I think we had kids too early and kids kept us busy and side tracked it a bit but we're finally here, that's the main thing."

When asked what the couple loved about each other Chanel said: "I love everything about him. There's nothing I don't love."
