Triple fatality on Northland highway - emergency services at the scene

Three people are dead after a crash on State Highway 1, north of Whangārei.

Police said emergency services wre called to the two-car crash about 2.15pm, 39km northwest of Whangārei.

The road was closed in and diversions were put in place while emergency services dealt with the crash. The highway has now reopened.

Northland's road toll for the year now stands at nine.
