Whangarei is now home to the latest craze sweeping New Zealand - a trampoline park.

MY Bounce, which opened in Lower Dent St yesterday, is the first trampoline park in Northland, with similar parks already open in Auckland, Hamilton, Christchurch, and Dunedin.

MY Bounce owner and cheerleading and tumble coach, Toni Saunders, noticed a lack of activities for children in Whangarei that combined fun and fitness so decided to start up the venture.

"We needed something else to give kids to do," she said.

MY Bounce is the main attraction at MY Movement, a multipurpose facility for creative sports Ms Saunders opened in June 2014.

The park boasts 200sq m of wall-to-wall trampolines, which Ms Saunders said you have to see to believe.

Bouncers can jump, spring and flip their way off walls and throughout the complex, which is heavily padded for safety.

A 14m long trampoline ends with a leap into a foam pit.

Ms Saunders said MY Bounce is suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

She said not only was it great core fitness training but just walking across the trampolines was a workout in itself.

"Bouncing is better for you than running, it's easier on your knees," she said.
