Te Tai Tokerau made a big impression at a recent North Island tournament, bringing two gold medals and a bronze back to Northland.
Five Te Tai Tokerau Touch junior teams travelled to Rotorua to play in the Northern Interprovincial Series tournament and it was the Under-14 teams that made thebiggest noise.
The Under-14 mixed division 1 team repeated their success of the 2016 edition, registering back-to-back gold medals, while the Under-14 mixed 2 team also brought home gold medals in a drop-off final.
The Under-10 boys finished in a well-earned third place in their division, with team manager Jade Wihongi saying the result shouldn't be taken lightly.
"Finishing third is a massive achievement for our boys and it is a great credit to the mana of the Te Tai Tokerau unit that we did so well overall," he said.
"Overall it was a very successful tournament for all teams, with over 1300 participants taking part in boys, girls and mixed grades from Under 10s through to Under 14s," he said.
"All the teams, players and coaches would like to thank all their sponsors for helping get them to the tournament."
The next big touch tournament in New Zealand is the 2017 Junior Nationals, which will run over next weekend, February 10-12, at Bruce Pulman Park in Takanini, South Auckland.
