Top croquet coach passing on knowledge in Whangārei

NZ national croquet coach Greg Bryant will be passing on his knowledge and upskilling players at the Whangārei Croquet Club tomorrow.

One of New Zealand's top croquet players and coaches will be passing on his knowledge at the Whangārei Croquet Club this week.

NZ national croquet coach Greg Bryant will be holding coaching sessions at the Mill Rd club tomorrow.

Club president Janis Langman said Bryant will be coaching Golf Croquet in the morning session and then will have sessions with Association Croquet players in the afternoon.

Langman said each session costs $5 and are open to anybody who plays croquet or wants to get involved.

''We're always looking for new members so anybody's welcome to come along and have a go.''

The morning session will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm and the afternoon session from 1.30pm to 4pm.

■ Golf Croquet is a game in itself, completely separate from Association Croquet. Although it has a long history, it has experienced a recent resurgence at all levels.

There are many Golf Croquet tournaments including regular World Championships, so it is not just a beginner's game.

It has a much simpler set of rules and therefore can be learned more quickly than Association Croquet. Games are generally more interactive and take less time to complete.

This makes it attractive to those who do not have the time to play Association Croquet, and beginners can use it to acquire some useful croquet skills.
