Bruce Scott, a Northland administrative stalwart, is a former NCA chief executive who helped run junior cricket in Northland for a number of years and was on the Northern Districts Cricket Board.
Edwards has given 25 years to Northland cricket. Not only does he actively work with junior cricket every Saturday, he umpires the senior grades in the afternoons.
"I help organise junior cricket. I look after the very young ones at Kensington Park on Saturday mornings and make sure everyone knows what they are doing and where they are going," he said.
"I round up all the scores as well and then head off to umpire the senior grades in the afternoon."
Edwards went down to Auckland for the marquee cricket awards night where Black Caps captain Kane Williamson picked up the Sir Richard Hadlee medal for player of the year.
Edwards said it was a great night and he got to catch up with Northland's leading cricketer, Tim Southee.
"It was a lovely evening, the whole night was brilliant," he said.
"The fact they let us grassroots winners mix and mingle with the rest was fantastic. They actually had us at the front tables.
"I got to talk to Tim Southee for a long time and he was with guys like Trent [Boult] and Kane and they acknowledged their appreciation for what we do at the grassroots level.
"They were coming from all corners of the room to talk with us which was just great."
Edwards now gets to enjoy the winter break before cricket season starts back up again.
He said he would definitely be back out there on Saturday mornings.
"I will definitely stick with it. I always have said they'll have to drag me off one day," he said.
"I can see it for another four of five years at the very least if my health is good.
"The thing that keeps me coming back is seeing the kids I coached in their youth playing senior cricket while I'm umpiring. I love seeing that progression and want to see more of it."
