A new piece of marae theatre following three men and their journey through depression, anxiety and suicide begins a two-week tour of Northland this weekend.
Written by the men who perform it, Tether is drawn from their real-life experiences and is an extension of the Mana Tane Kaupapa which supports
Maori and Pacific men to speak their truth and create healthy, open relationships.
It features actor and martial artist Tuari Dawson alongside musician Bennett Pomana, of the Upper Hutt Posse hip hop crew, making his acting debut as Wi. Musician, martial arts instructor and mentor Arapeta Kamo provides the soundscape.
The first show will take place at the Mauri Ora Mai Tawhiti hui in Pawarenga on Saturday, followed by Potahi Marae in Te Kao on Sunday and Te Ahu's Little Theatre in Kaitaia on Monday, all at 6pm. The crew will then go via Kaeo, Taipa, Panguru, Kaikohe, Rawene and Whangarei, ending at Whakapara Marae on December 12-14 as part of an exhibition promoting healing through the arts.
Tether is not suitable for under-13s due to its content and strong language. Each show will be followed by a 30-minute question and answer session. Go to the Facebook page Tether Tai Tokerau for the latest performance dates and venues.
