Northland's keen up-and-coming business minds will be showing off their wares at a Young Enterprise trade fair at Whangarei's Forum North tomorrow.
The Young Enterprise Scheme gives senior high school students a shot of real business experience, and the trade fair lets the "companies" sell their products.
Kamo High School's "Active Attitude" team, made up of Kylie Wright, Kerry Page and Ashleigh McCaw, will be promoting their kids' fitness DVD.
The 17-year-old Year 13 students knew they wanted a product for children, but say coming up with the idea was the tricky part. Fitness was the fix.
"Because obesity has been such a big issue lately we wanted to do something to get kids moving," said Ashleigh.
The exercises are aimed at five-10 year olds, and the DVD stars eight young "fitness buddies" building strength, fitness and flexibility to catchy tunes using props like chairs and scarves. The youngsters will join the Active Attitude team at Sunday's trade fair.
Kylie says the Young Enterprise Scheme gives teens great real-life experience: "It's trying to get young people into the world of entrepreneurship - being creative, building a business and getting experienced", she said.
Education for Enterprise regional coordinator Dave Templeton says the event creates a real business environment for the students, and breeds self-determination and a can-do attitude.
"It also strengthens the link between the business community and schools," he said.
