Teen motorcyclist injured in Northland sand dunes accident

A 15-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital after a motorcycle accident on Northland sand dunes.

Police said the boy was coming down the sand dunes in Ahipara on a motorcycle when he hit the back of his head on the bike yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services - including fire crews and St John ambulance - went to the scene shortly after 1pm.

The boy suffered fractures to his arm and chest.

He was transported to Whangarei Hospital by Northland Rescue Helicopter, but his condition was not available at edition time yesterday.
