As many as 10 per cent of eligible electors in the Te Tai Tokerau electorate may not be enrolled and they are being urged to make sure they are correctly signed up in time to vote in the by-election.
The by-election, called when former Maori Party MP Hone Harawira resigned from
parliament to seek a new mandate after forming the Mana Party, will be held on June 25.
Te Tai Tokerau Registrar of Electors Stephen Hansen said only people on the Maori electoral roll for Te Tai Tokerau electorate were able to vote.
"People can check to see if they are registered for the electorate at www.elections.org.nz. Updated lists of electors will also be available for checking at PostShops and public libraries within the Te Tai Tokerau electorate," he said.
He said people who were enrolled for the last local body elections only have to re-enroll if they have changed address since they last voted.
"Anyone who has moved house, changed their name or other details recently should update their enrolment details to make sure these are correct. You can update your details by filling in a new enrolment form."
Mr Hansen said the Te Tai Tokerau electoral roll had 31,999 people registered, but the "dormant roll" - those people who have not re-enrolled or moved - had another 3379 people, who could be eligible to vote in the by-election.
