The Police National Dive Squad may be deployed if conditions improve to search for a man missing from a remote Far North bay.
The alarm was raised on Sunday afternoon after the man, on a fishing trip with friends, was swept off rocks at Tapotupotu Bay about 10km southof Cape Rēinga.
On Tuesday, Coastguard Air Patrol and police drones were continuing a search of the rugged area before it was scaled back today to give crews a chance to rest.
Detective Sergeant Ryan Cooper said the search for the man would resume today, “with the intention of deploying the Police National Dive Squad to the area later in the week if conditions improve”.
Search and Rescue, Coastguard Air Patrol, Customs, Surf Lifesaving and Northern Rescue Helicopter have contributed to the search since Sunday afternoon.
Cooper acknowledged the agencies for their efforts thus far.
