2015 has been a successful year for Northland swimmers - and it just got a whole lot better.

With many national medals having been won over the year, and the selection of Callum Prime and Hayley McIntosh to the NZ Age Group Team which competed in Australia recently, five more Northlanders (in addition to McIntosh and Prime) have gained the attention of Swimming NZ through their selection for the recent National Age Group Development camp.

Swimmers were selected by gaining medals in Olympic events at either the 2015 NZ Age Group National Championships (NAGS) held in May, or gaining medals at the 2015 NZ Short Course Championships held in September.

The Northland swimmers to attend the camp were Hayley McIntosh (Northwave) who won a silver in the 200m backstroke and bronze medals in the 200m and 400m freestyle at NAGS, as well as a silver in the 400m freestyle and a bronze in the 200m backstroke at NZ Short Course Champs; Callum Prime (Northwave) who won silver in the 200m backstroke and the 200m individual medley at NAGS, gold in the 200m and 400m individual medley and the 200m backstroke, silver medals in the 100m backstroke and the 100m freestyle, and a bronze medal in the 100m individual medley at the NZ Short Course Champs; Ellie Eastwood (Northwave) who won silver medals in the 100m and 200m breaststroke at NZ Short Course Champs; Annabell Simpson (Northwave) who won a silver medal in the 200m backstroke at the NZ Short Course Champs; Ciara Smith (Northwave) who won gold in the 100m breaststroke, a silver in the 200m breaststroke and bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke at NZ Short Course Champs; Paul Linton (Bream Bay) who won a silver in the 100m backstroke at the NZ Short Course Champs; Jeremy Elliott (Northwave) who won a bronze in the 200m butterfly at NAGS.

Madeline Gordon from Northwave and Isabelle Paton from Bream Bay also qualified for the camp but did not attend.

Northland coaches Monica Cooper (Northwave) and Richard Dunkerton (Bream Bay) also attended. Cooper said her Northwave team enjoyed the experience of training at a Swimming NZ camp and now have a better understanding of the pathway requirements to compete as a future New Zealand representative.

The swimmers attended the camp held at the Millennium Institute in Auckland, where they undertook intensive pool and dry-land sessions.
