It will be a bit of a family reunion this month when Ahipara brothers Sergio and Kalani Hansen compete for Northland at the Surfing New Zealand National Scholastics Championships in Taranaki.
The brothers - who are both natural footers - have been named in the 12-strong Northland team to competeat the event, which runs from September 29-October 3, which also features representation from a variety of Northland schools.
In naming the team last week, Northland team manager Tony Baker noted the selection was based on this year's Northland Secondary Schools Scholastics Series results and Surfing New Zealand Junior Series rankings, and took into consideration involvement and experience in surfing at a regional and national level.
The Hansens' ratings at the completion of the three-comp series saw Sergio place third overall in the under-18s and Kalani first in under-16 division.
