The giant pilates ball often remained outside of the field as students attempted to kick it while tied to a friend, but it was all a bit of fun for Youth Week.

As Whangarei gears up for the Fifa Under-20 Football World Cup, the students at Whangarei Girls' High School took football to another level with a game of three-legged soccer.

The game was one of many activities held at the school, organised by local community groups, to celebrate Youth Week.

Te Ora Hau Northland youth worker Jethro George said the activities would be held at different schools throughout the week.

"It's about celebrating young people and creating awareness of all the talented young people we have here in Northland."

Yesterday Te Ora Hau Northland, Lions Den Ministries, 24/7, Youth Services from People Potential and Youth Space were at the school with music, soccer, fitness and dodgeball.

"This is a way to engage youth and get people involved, connect with them and have a bit of fun."

Mr George said so far students had "really enjoyed" all the activities.
