A team of Northland trap shooters has returned from the Youth Games in Hamilton with a swag of medals, including one gold which was won during a shoot off.
Josh Nilsson, of Dargaville High School, combined with Whangarei Boys' High School student Hainee Musgrove and St Johns College Huntly studentMitchell Beddis to win gold in the team's event.
At the end of 75 rounds, however, the trio were deadlocked with two other teams which resulted in a shoot off - won by the boys. The team then went on to claim silver the next day earlier this month in the ISSF trench event.
Dargaville's Nilsson added to his team's gold with two other medals, coming home with the set of medals.
He won bronze with a 24 out of 25 in the single barrel to complete the set, combining with his gold and silver from the teams events. Musgrove also came home with the set, winning bronze in the point score.
Whangarei Girls' High School's Danica Radich was also competing in the Youth Games, winning bronze in the skeet girls team against a total of 60 boy competitors and 15 girls.
Three other Northlanders competed, but didn't feature in prizes. They were Vaughan Thompson, from Ruawai College, Logan Williamson and Hayden Thomson, both from Tauraroa Area School.
