Several of Northland's junior squash players have come away from the South Island Age Group Champs with impressive results.
In the under-17 girls, first place went to Zoe Dykzeul after she claimed a solid win over Ruby Beresford.
Dykzeul and Beresford had to fight point-for-point in the first two games but Dykzeul was able to just pull ahead in both.
At one point in the match it looked as if the tide may have changed, with Dykzeul struggling to find her form and rhythm, however she came back to the court and showed Beresford she wanted the title more and never looked back, taking the game in four sets.
The under-13 and under-11 titles were both claimed by Whangarei's Natalie Sayes.
Sayes started the day taking out newby Caitlin Millard in the under-11s.
Sayes showed her experience on the court against Millard, then carried her momentum through into her under-13s game where she defeated Dileesia Henare in three as well.
Henare put up a strong fight but Sayes was warmed and ready to claim another title, and showed why she already has a number of titles to her name.
The under-11 boys saw one of the more interesting games of the day with a five-setter between Northland's Freddie Jameson and Tom Marshall.
Marshall managed to take the first two games, in what were hard-fought, point-for-point battles, however Jameson found another gear in the third and came out firing to level the score at 2-all. The fifth saw both players leave everything on court but it was Jameson's day as he took another title back to Northland.
This weekend, nine Northland juniors travel to Wellington to compete in the North Island Age Group championships.
