Whangārei's Blomfield Special School has got a unique way to raise funds to send its students out on trips - they do the Whangārei Hatea Loop Challenge.

Yesterday was the school's third year of doing the challenge and team leader Tracy Chapman said it's a great way to raise funds and have a fun time while doing so.

Chapman said the school hoped to raise more than $1800 from the challenge, money that would be used for students' outings in the community and further afield such as 10 Pin Bowling, Snowplanet, and the Kawakawa steam train.

Northern Advocate photographer Michael Cunningham took up the challenge too.
