Derek Browning gets to be part of the behind the scenes action with the Northland Taniwha all season, but on Sunday the public get the chance to experience it with Tane the Taniwha when an interview with Sky Sport is aired.

Mr Browning said he has had a stellar first season as Tane and was thrilled to show Sky Sport around Toll Stadium for the interview.

The feature story will air as part of the ITM Cup Week show on Sky Sport 1 at 6.30pm tomorrow.

Mr Browning said Tane wants to make sure the final game of the season draws a massive crowd of supporters.

The final game is sure to hold plenty of action and fun. Mr Browning said there will be a helicopter involved in Tane's usual antics, as well as 1000 look-alike Rene Ranger masks being handed out at the entry gate in celebration of Ranger's last game.

When out of the suit, Mr Browning is a road maintenance officer for Fulton Hogan. He said his workmates give him a bit of stick, but it's all in good jest, and think he does a pretty good job as the mascot.

On game day he prepares with the team in the same way the players do.

"There is a lot of down-time and organising then plenty of preparing."

Finding the spark to keep the crowd entertained and pumped up is easy, he said.

"Just soaking up the atmosphere at the game, it's awesome."

After the game is over the whole team ensure they spend plenty of time with the fans, something that is important to Tane, Mr Browning said.

"I spend a lot of time with the supporters and the kids. I sign as many autographs as the players do," he said.

"I was told Tane the Taniwha was voted the most popular mascot on the Crowd Goes Wild which is awesome," he said.

He said his first season as Tane has seen him travel around the country with the team to the away games, thanks to his sponsors.

Mr Browning said he will be pulling on the suit for next year's season.
