Six60 sell out Whangarei's Toll Stadium for Saturday's show

This weekend's event is Six60's final headline show for the summer touring season.

A sell-out crowd of 10,000 will pack Whangarei's Toll Stadium on Saturday for the final summer show for Kiwi music sensation Six60, with about 4000 punters coming from outside of the district.

Saturday's show, which has support from Kings and P Money, is Six60's final headline show for the summer touring season and Rachel O'Gorman, from Whangarei Venues & Events, said it was a sell-out with all 10,000 tickets gone and there would not be any door sales on the day.

''To sell 10,000 tickets is amazing and that's matched what [Six60] sold for their recent Auckland show at Villa Maria [Estate],'' Ms O'Gorman said.

''And of that 10,000 about 40 per cent are from outside of Whangarei so the show is going to be really good for the district and will bring all those extra people into town.''

She said the sell-out shows meant Whangarei was earning a reputation as a place to go to for big events, with a number of festivals and big concerts held in the district every year that attracted large numbers of people from outside the area.

The concertgoers are filling up motels in town and are expected to provide an economic windfall for the city.

Heading out across New Zealand following the release of a six-track EP that has spawned the hits Don't Give It Up, Closer and Rivers, and a slew of European tour dates, this weekend's concert means Six60 will play to 40,000 fans across eight New Zealand dates this summer.

Promoter Dave Munro from Eccles Entertainment said Six60 were going from strength to strength, and selling out Toll Stadium was testament to the fact that the band continued to capture the hearts of old fans and garner new fans en masse.

''We are blown away by this result, Saturday's show will go down in the history books. Whatever Six60 decide to do next summer in New Zealand, this should encourage fans that have missed out not to wait to buy tickets. These guys know how to sell out venues."

Six60 will support Ed Sheeran for three concerts in their hometown Dunedin next weekend.
