Singing success
Bream Bay singing students sang their way to success at Whangārei's recent Northland Performing Arts Festival.

Sam Birchall, of Ruakākā, who has studied with Maura Flower since 2011, won the intermediate championship for the second consecutive year.

Birchall won five firsts, two seconds and won the duet competition with Katrina Poyner.

He won a James Rice Scholarship which will help fund his classical voice studies next year at the University of Auckland.

In the junior (12 years and under) competition, Matai Hartles was 2nd equal in the overall championship for juniors 12 years and under.
