Four people are in Auckland Hospital after a crash on State Highway 1, south of the Brynderwyns.

Three patients, two in a critical condition and one in a moderate condition, were airlifted to Auckland City Hospital, a Hato Hone St John spokesperson said.

“One additional patient, in moderate condition, is being transported by road ambulance to Auckland City Hospital.”

Hato Hone St John was notified of the accident on SH1, Waipū, at 12.43pm.

Two helicopters, two ambulances, one rapid response unit and two operations managers attended.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified, a police spokesperson said.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said the road was closed between SH12 and Waipū Gorge Rd for a time while the Serious Crash Unit completed its investigation.
