Police have made a second arrest after the assault on 78-year-old Mike Bradshaw at the Kawakawa railway station on April 29.

Police have made a second arrest after the assault on 78-year-old Mike Bradshaw at the Kawakawa railway station on April 29.

Police have made a second arrest in relation to the bashing of a volunteer at Kawakawa's vintage railway.

The attack on Mike Bradshaw, 78, occurred on the morning of April 29 when he disturbed a group of youths rifling through cupboards in the railway shed.

He suffered a black eye, bruised ribs and a head wound in the attack.

Senior Sergeant Peter Robinson, of Kerikeri Police, said a 17-year-old male from Kaikohe appeared in the Kaikohe District Court this morning charged with aggravated injury and burglary.

It followed the arrest of a 15-year-old male last week who had also appeared in court.

Another two youths, aged 13 and 14, had been referred to Youth Aid in relation to the incident.

Police were continuing their enquiries into the incident and could not rule out further arrests.

Mr Robinson thanked the public for their assistance in tracking down the suspects.
